Rimer (Wendell D.) papers, 1940-1945.

The Wendell D. Rimer papers chronicle Rimer's life in the army between 1940 and 1945. Over half of the papers consists of correspondence with his family in Ohio ; the remainder are photographs, postcards, and service medals. The collection is organized into two series: Service in Louisiana (1940-1941) and Service in Europe (1942-1945).

Wendell D. Rimer was born on August 14, 1918 in Mishawaka, Indiana. He enlisted in the army in August 1940 and soon transferred to Fort Beauregard in Alexandria, Louisiana. He was sent to Europe in December 1941 where he served first with the U.S. Army Claims Commission and later with the War Crimes Investigating Commission.
